1/13/2011

Yesterday, Sage and I took a trip to Dana's new work for a "family meeting." We listened to a briefing on what his new job entails as well as expectations of each soldier. We were told they'd have a lot of homework -so we should be nice to them. Dana has actually sat at the dining room table every night this week and studied for HOURS. It's very odd to see.
We toured the new facility. The technology they have is extremely cool, but I have to say I didn't retain a single bit of information.  It all looked soooo boring! Ugh. I don't know how he'll do it. All circuit breakers, machines, welding, wires, etc. Not my thing.
The wives I met all seemed extremely nice which make me feel more optimistic about this new post. There is no structured FRG since it's a training unit so I've been considering volunteering to assist in some sort of unofficial position like that. There are quite a few pregnant wives and the soldiers get NO paternity leave. There are also wives that have no vehicles. I gave many of them my number in case they need anything.
Sage was WIDE OPEN during the meeting because she had just taken a nap. I'm sure the Oreos I was feeding her to keep her quiet didn't help... She just kept laughing while the battalion commander spoke and during the tour she kept swinging around her arms and legs. Crazy sugar rush baby.
But anyhow, that was our day. Hopefully we'll be forming some playgroups soon and I'm sure that will make for some fun pictures!

In other news, Sage is doing EXTREMELY well with solid food. She's even scaled back on the amount of bottles she takes per day which has been kind of nice because formula is EXPENISVE. She will eat the pureed food that I make her but she's starting to want to feed herself more. Instead of mushing up bananas for her I've just been breaking them apart into small pieces she can pick up on her own. Makes for a happy baby but a much larger mess...

Weird things in Missouri

As most of you know, Sage and I have been banished moved to the middle-of-nowhere Missouri.
Thank you Army.
It's temporary, thank goodness.
But there is weird stuff here ya'll. Really weird.
I took Sage to the library today so that she could participate (aka watch everyone else) in their children's story time.  She's been accustomed to being around other people and children so now that it's just her and I it seems that I need to find her some stuff to do. She starts to get weird after a few days of sitting around the house...
On the way to the library (which is only about 3 miles away from our apartment) I came across this sign

I thought, "Hmmm....that's weird. Maybe some rare species of some sort of Missouri Mountain Frog lives here...." And then I saw this lovely creature right there on the rock face.................................................

Where in the world am I?

The most exciting day ever...not

We took the day off of packing and decided to explore around the area a bit. There is a town called Springfield about an hour away from us which we have been told is the closest "big town."
It was not that big.
Just so you know.
But we did find the HUGEST Bass Pro Shop ever.
I could care less about Bass Pro Shop FYI. But it was really, really gigantic and we were bored so we went. It was literally like going to a free aquarium. They had tanks with fish larger than me and a live alligator ya'll.
And I saw a lady rocking a side pony tail.
We also went to a cheese outlet store.
And we got BBQ for lunch-which Dana has never had.
(Who has never had BBQ before? That's just weird.)
That was our day.
Woo hoo Missouri...

Sage continues to do well. Her top two teeth came in while we were in Georgia. That was a pain for all of us (admittedly probably more for her than us). She dealt with it like a champ though and now she's good as new but you seriously don't want to get your fingers near her. You'd be better off sticking your hand in the alligator pit at the Bass Pro Shop...

Missouri

We made it to Missouri. I know I should have more to say on the subject but my head feels a bit like sludge. I'm not sure if it's the lack of sleep from that 12 hour, all-night drive that we did on Sunday, the overwhelming amount of boxes that are currently staring me in the face, or the fact that I've been on a chocolate binge for the last two weeks and my body is in desperate need of a vegetable.
Seriously, I am going through some type of withdrawals. I've got the shakes.
I need a chocolate 12 step program to attend once I get out of a chocolate detox facility.

The drive to Missouri is a pretty boring story. We had some wonderful Christmas festivities with family on Sunday and then Dana and I left Georgia around 6:45pm that evening. We took separate cars; I got the baby and he got the cat. Trust me when I say I got the better end of that deal. My passenger slept the whole way. I belive that poor Delta meowed for the majority of the trip (he's settled into the new house like a champ though!).  I didn't get too tired during the drive-never felt the need to stop and sleep or anything. I think it was due to the emotional roller coaster I experienced through the drive mixed in with driving through a new place. I spent half of the hours having my own personal pity party as I was headed to the middle of nowhere and the other half thinking that maybe it would be a cool adventure. I think I made it here around 5:30am.

The apartment is ok. It's a small complex and made fairly cheaply but it's not scary and the people running the place seem fairly nice so far. St Robert seems to be an EXTREMELY tiny town and the apartment is smack dab in the middle of it all. And by it all I think it is only about a mile stretch worth of stuff: Walmart, Lowes, about 4 resturants, car dealership, and a couple hotels. We could walk to all of it. I couldn't tell you too uch more about the area due to the fact that Monday was SO FLIPPNG COLD I hid inside. I also felt like crap from not getting any sleep the night before. Today all we did was unpack so I haven't gotten out except to check the mail. I can tell a significant decrease in the amount of boxes though....yay for accomplishment.

We are getting the internet set up in the house tomorrow (at this second I'm stealing the neighbors wireless. shhh!! don't tell!). When we get that finished I'll be able to download all the latest pictures from the holidays!

And, FYI, people in Missouri look really weird.
Hope no one reading is from Missouri...
If you are, then I'm sure you look perfectly normal.
